At Altenberg 32% Blaufränkisch, 40% Zweigelt, 24% Merlot and 4% Syrah were planted in April 2005. The local varieties find their place in Pannobile Rot. We also produce both a Zweigelt and St. Laurent from a single grape variety. Both of those come from the plateau of Altenberg, which is covered in red gravel. The gravel, with its high concentration in iron, predetermines the character of the wines. A considerable amount of tightknit tannin and a dark colour are characteristic of the Altenberg wines.
